Diabetes, a cause for all ages...

I was 35 years old when I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic, knowing so little about what it was, after the initial two weeks; I proceeded with my life with no regard for the disease.

Then when I came within 6 months of going blind and learned of the damage I had done to my body for 15 years of neglect. I was a mess, and was in stage one heart disease at the age of 50 because I say no harm in my lifestyle.

It has taken me nearly 3 years and dedicated medical professionals to help me I have begun the process of restoring my health. I have arrived at a point in my life where I can give back for all the blessings in my life to a cause that is deeply personal.

Diabetes is a disease which the body is unable to produce or unable to properly use and store glucose (a form of sugar) for which there is currently no cure. Glucose backs up in the bloodstream, casing sugar levels to rise in the bloodstream. This is referred to as hyperglycemia diabetes.

There are two major types of diabetes, type 1 (referred to as juvenile-onset or insulin-dependent) diabetes. This is where the body stops producing insulin all together, a hormone that enables the body to use glucose found in foods for energy. People with type 1 diabetes must take daily insulin injections to survive. This form of diabetes most often develops in children or young adults, but can affect people at most any age.

Type 2 (also called adult-onset or non insulin-dependent) diabetes results when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin and/or is unable to use the insulin they do produce properly, this is also referred to as insulin resistant diabetes. Type 2 diabetes usually occurs in people over the age of 30, overweight, and maybe pre-dispositioned by family history of diabetes. Increasingly, cases of type 2 diabetes are being reported in school age children.

This is our purpose, education of the health choices grade schools can offer in their lunch programs and health classes We know this, adults will seldom change the way of life while they are in those late teens and early adulthood when they have an attitude of invincibility. But grade school level children are impressionable and more importantly, they are teachable. If we can teach grade school children to eat better and get their exercise to avoid the condition that is most likely to create a “diabetic rich” population.

More than 30 Million people affected by diabetes, and the leading cause of death by complications from diabetes. With those being affected by the diabetic condition at a younger age, it occurs to us that something must be done. It’s clear the billions made the Pharmaceuticals do not have the commitment to solve this problem.

We are newly formed, but our commitment is correctly placed, starting locally here in the Omaha Metro for now, but as the funding increases we will branch out. We are currently working with several charitable organizations as we form this one. We hope you will volunteer your time and of course spread the word. We aim to change the direction of the diabetic trend among our children.
